MARIE CHRISTINE SAGRADO-CABATO received her Juris Doctor degree (Second Honors) from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2000 and was admitted to the bar in 2001.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines in Diliman in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.   Prior to joining FMH in 2007 as a mid-level associate, Ms. Cabato was a member of the Litigation Practice Group of Quisumbing Torres, a member firm of Baker & McKenzie International, for five years.


Ms. Cabato is a Junior Partner and presently the Head of FMH’s Litigation Practice Group. She is also a member of the Firm’s Arbitration Practice Group.


Ms. Cabato has an extensive practice in trial court litigation and appellate practice, as well as domestic and international commercial arbitration.  As a litigator, Ms. Cabato has represented clients and appeared before all courts in the Philippines, as well as in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Commission, Energy Regulatory Commission, Civil Aeronautics Board, National Telecommunications Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, Social Security System, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, and Office of the Ombudsman.


On the other hand, Ms. Cabato’s practice in domestic and international commercial arbitration consists of acting as counsel/co-counsel/member of the legal team in several commercial arbitrations, including arbitrations conducted under the arbitration rules of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. (PDRCI), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Philippine Construction Industry Arbitration Commission (CIAC), and ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules.


At present, Ms. Cabato is a Trained Arbitrator of the PDRCI and is a member of the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators.  Recently, she passed the Accelerated Route to Membership examination held on 17 – 18 March 2017 and has been qualified to join the ranks of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) as a Member.
